Science Technician

About the role

We are seeking a Science Technician to join a ‘Good’ secondary school in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, starting September 2026. The role involves supporting science teaching across GCSE and A‑level curricula, ensuring smooth laboratory operations and resource preparation.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate the science technician team, taking responsibility for at least one A‑level science subject.
• Prepare classroom resources, laboratory apparatus and chemicals for lessons up to A‑level.
• Support pupils during practical sessions and demonstrations.
• Maintain adequate stock levels of scientific supplies and equipment.
• Assist teachers with ICT‑based tasks related to science teaching.

Required profile

• Good general education with GCSEs in English, Mathematics and Science.
• Degree or equivalent qualification in a science discipline.
• Proven experience working in a scientific environment, preferably within secondary education.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and manage time effectively.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well with staff and students.

Required skills

• ICT proficiency for preparing teaching materials and managing laboratory data.
• Laboratory techniques for preparing apparatus and handling chemicals up to A‑level.
