Second Chef – Care Home (26 hrs/week)

About the role

Join Barchester Healthcare as a Second Chef working 26 hours per week in a residential care setting. You will help deliver hotel‑standard meals while enjoying a balanced work schedule with alternate weekends.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence.
• Assist the Head Chef with menu development and creation of nutritious, seasonal dishes.
• Work with fresh produce to prepare high‑quality, wholesome meals.
• Maintain a warm, efficient, and enjoyable kitchen environment.
• Operate within budget, conduct regular audits, and manage stock control.

Required profile

• Personable, warm approach with genuine interest in residents’ wellbeing.
• City & Guilds, NVQ, SVQ or equivalent culinary qualification.
• Good understanding of nutrition and experience with fresh seasonal food.
• Confidence engaging with residents to tailor appetising menus.
• Solid knowledge of HACCP standards.
