Second Chef – Care Home (3 days/week)

About the role

Join Barchester Healthcare as a Second Chef working three days a week with alternate weekends. You will support the Head Chef in delivering hotel‑standard, nutritious meals for care‑home residents while enjoying a balanced work‑life schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in creating seasonal, well‑balanced menus tailored to resident preferences.
• Manage the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence, ensuring smooth daily operations.
• Prepare high‑quality dishes using fresh produce, maintaining the highest food standards.
• Control stock levels, conduct regular audits, and manage the kitchen budget.
• Maintain HACCP compliance and uphold food safety procedures.

Required profile

• Qualified chef holding City & Guilds, NVQ, SVQ or equivalent certification.
• Strong understanding of nutrition and experience with fresh seasonal ingredients.
• Warm, personable approach with genuine interest in resident wellbeing.
• Confidence engaging residents to develop appetising, nutritious menus.
• Good knowledge of HACCP principles.
