Second Chef – Care Home

About the role

Barchester Healthcare is seeking a qualified Second Chef to join its residential care home kitchen in Crawley Down. You will work alongside the Head Chef to create nutritious, seasonal menus that meet the individual needs of residents while maintaining hotel‑standard quality.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in developing balanced, flavourful menus using fresh, seasonal produce.
• Manage the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence, ensuring smooth daily operations.
• Control stock levels, conduct regular audits and maintain budgetary targets.
• Prepare dishes to the highest hygiene and quality standards, adhering to HACCP guidelines.
• Engage with residents to tailor meals to their preferences and dietary requirements.

Required profile

• Warm, personable approach with a genuine interest in resident wellbeing.
• City & Guilds, NVQ or SVQ (or equivalent) culinary qualification.
• Good understanding of nutrition and fresh seasonal cooking.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team‑focused environment.
