Second Chef – Care Home (Mongewell)

About the role

Join Barchester Healthcare as a Second Chef in our Mongewell care home, delivering hotel‑standard meals to residents while enjoying a balanced work schedule. You will support the Head Chef in creating nutritious, seasonal menus that meet the individual needs of our residents.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence.
• Assist with menu development and planning.
• Prepare dishes using fresh, seasonal produce to the highest quality standards.
• Maintain a warm, welcoming environment for residents and staff.
• Work within budgetary constraints and conduct regular audits.
• Control stock levels and ensure accurate inventory management.

Required profile

• Personable, warm approach with genuine interest in residents’ wellbeing.
• City & Guilds, NVQ, SVQ or equivalent culinary qualification.
• Good understanding of nutrition and fresh seasonal food.
• Confidence engaging with residents to tailor appetising menus.
• Solid knowledge of HACCP food safety standards.
