Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant – Hackney

About the role

We are seeking a caring and resilient Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary school in Hackney. You will work closely with students who have Autism, ADHD, SEMH and other learning difficulties, helping them to thrive academically and personally.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to students.
• Assist pupils in accessing learning and engaging positively in lessons.
• Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation and independence.
• Build strong relationships with students, staff and families.
• Support social, emotional and communication needs.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists and pastoral teams.
• Create a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Required profile

• Passionate about supporting young people with additional needs.
• Experience working with children or young people in school, youth work, care or mentoring.
• Patient, positive, resilient and able to stay calm in challenging situations.
• Committed to safeguarding and student wellbeing.

• Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Ability to remain professional under pressure.
