Security Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Security Engineer to design, operate and enhance secure digital solutions that support UK Defence and National Security missions. The role is hands‑on, focusing on privileged access management, identity security, credential lifecycle management and overall operational security within highly secure environments.

Key responsibilities

• Manage privileged credentials such as passwords, SSH keys and API keys, including automated rotation.
• Run discovery scans to identify privileged and service accounts and map system dependencies.
• Configure and monitor access controls, user roles, permissions and privileged session monitoring.
• Monitor vulnerabilities, apply security patches and maintain platform security.
• Review audit logs, correlate alerts with SIEM data and investigate suspicious activity.
• Troubleshoot security issues across firewalls, load balancers, identity systems and credential‑management tools.

Required profile

• Proven experience deploying and managing security tooling (vulnerability scanning, EDR).
• Hands‑on experience with identity solutions, directory services, identity providers or PAM platforms.
• Strong understanding of privileged account, credential and secrets management.
• Ability to work at a technical low‑level design level and produce clear documentation.
• Familiarity with Agile, DevSecOps and CI/CD principles in secure environments.
• Knowledge of threat frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK.
