Security Officer

About the role

We are seeking a full‑time Security Officer to provide 24‑hour site coverage at our Bedfordshire facility, home to a transonic wind tunnel and specialist engineering equipment. The role involves 12‑hour rotating shifts (36/48‑hour pattern) delivering a total of 42 hours per week.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain physical security of the premises and control access for employees, contractors and visitors.
• Perform gatehouse, reception and customer‑service duties, including operating the switchboard.
• Carry out internal and external patrols, monitor CCTV, intruder alarms and access‑control systems.
• Respond promptly to incidents, emergencies and alarm activations, contacting police, fire or ambulance as required.
• Inspect incoming mail and parcels for suspicious items.
• Ensure buildings are secured, fire muster sheets are up‑to‑date and parking arrangements are monitored.
• Provide first‑aid assistance and hold a current First Aid at Work qualification (training provided if needed).
• Cover staff absences and work weekends and Bank Holidays as part of the shift pattern.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a security role with a solid understanding of industry practices.
• Excellent communication, proactive attitude and strong attention to detail.
• Team‑player who can adapt to a rotating shift schedule.

Required skills

• Strong observation and situational awareness.
• Familiarity with CCTV, access control and intruder alarm systems.
• Ability to operate a switchboard and manage visitor logs.
• First‑aid certification or willingness to obtain training.
