Security‑Conscious Cleaner – HM Prison Guys Marsh

About the role

We are looking for a security‑conscious, experienced cleaner to join the Facilities & Waste Disposal team at HM Prison Guys Marsh near Shaftesbury. The role is full‑time (37 hours per week) on a long‑term temporary contract, with the possibility of progressing to a permanent position.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the general cleanliness of non‑prisoner areas, including corridors, offices, and communal spaces.
• Collect and dispose of waste in line with health‑and‑safety standards.
• Operate cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers and industrial vacuum cleaners.
• Identify and report any security or safety concerns promptly.
• Ensure all cleaning activities comply with prison security protocols.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a cleaning or janitorial role.
• Strong security awareness and ability to challenge potential risks.
• Reliable, consistent, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Local to the prison or have own transport.
• Willing to undergo HM Prison Service security clearance (up to 4 weeks).
• Valid passport or birth certificate with photo driving licence at current address.
• Two satisfactory references, at least one from a former employer.

Required skills

• Operating cleaning machinery (floor scrubbers, industrial vacuums).
• Manual handling of cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Basic health‑and‑safety knowledge relevant to custodial work.
