Seed Processing Assistant

About the role

The Seed Processing Assistant will support the Seed Trading team at Forestry England’s modern facility in Northwich. Working alongside experienced Seed Technicians, you will help process, clean and prepare tree seeds for distribution across the UK.

Key responsibilities

• Unload cones, fruits and other natural materials (manual handling up to 25 kg).
• Clean, wash, dry and extract seeds from broadleaf and conifer tree species.
• Process, store and prepare tree seed for distribution.
• Operate seed processing machinery after full training.
• Move materials safely using a pump pallet truck.
• Record deliveries, stock movements and orders accurately.
• Manage waste generated during the seed processing operation.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping, cleanliness and bio‑security.
• Report health‑safety or bio‑security concerns to supervisors.
• Support outdoor nursery and woodland activities such as planting, watering, weeding, pruning and labelling.

Required profile

• Reliable, punctual and conscientious approach to work.
• Physically fit for manual handling up to 25 kg and standing for extended periods.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to monitor multiple machines simultaneously.
• Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Interest in forestry, horticulture, conservation or related natural environments.
• Ability to read and write English and accurately record information.
• Willingness to follow health‑safety, bio‑security and housekeeping procedures.
