SEMH and Wellbeing Support Assistant

About the role
This position is based in a welcoming primary school in Chippenham and focuses on supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. You will work closely with teaching staff and external partners to create a safe, inclusive learning environment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one support for pupils experiencing anxiety, emotional dysregulation or barriers to learning.
- Deliver small‑group interventions that build confidence, resilience and social skills.
- Implement behaviour management strategies that promote positive outcomes.
- Develop trusting relationships with pupils to help them feel understood and valued.
- Collaborate with teachers, SEN professionals and external agencies to support individual learning plans.
Required profile
- Patient, resilient and empathetic nature.
- Confidence working with children who have SEN, SEMH or behavioural needs.
- Strong communication and relationship‑building abilities.
- Genuine interest in psychology, mental health, education or child development.
- Previous experience with children, young people or vulnerable groups (desirable but not essential).

- Competitive daily rate of £90‑£110, dependent on experience.
- Hands‑on experience supporting SEMH and additional learning needs.
- Ongoing mentorship from experienced SEN and pastoral professionals.
- Pathways into educational psychology, teaching, therapy, counselling or youth work.
- Dedicated consultant support throughout the placement.
