SEMH Learning Mentor – Immediate Start

About the role

Prospero Teaching is seeking a passionate Learning Mentor to join an Alternative Provision school in Sunderland. You will work directly with pupils aged 11‑16 who have social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and have been excluded from mainstream education.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to help pupils manage emotions and behaviour during lessons and around the school.
• Develop an understanding of each pupil’s learning style and needs, collaborating closely with class teachers and support staff.
• Assist pupils in engaging with the curriculum and achieving their academic targets.

Required profile

• Relevant teaching, learning or childcare qualification (desired).
• Experience working with children in UK schools.
• Strong ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
• Resilient, proactive and positive attitude.
• Right to work in the UK and an enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
• Two professional references covering the last two years.

Required skills

What we offer

• Daily rate of £95‑£110.
• Full‑time position until July 2027, with the possibility of permanent employment.
• Start date in September 2026.
• On‑site work in Sunderland.
