SEMH Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join an Alternative Provision setting in Worthing. The role starts in September 2026 and is full‑time during term time. You will work closely with vulnerable young people, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Support students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups across a range of subjects.
• Assist with the delivery of learning activities and encourage positive behaviour.
• Build strong relationships with students, staff, and families.
• Provide support for social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
• Help create a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
• Observe student progress and give feedback to teaching staff.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people, preferably in education, youth work, care or support settings.
• Calm, patient and empathetic approach.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Resilience and positivity when faced with challenges.
• Passion for supporting vulnerable young people and willingness to undertake training.
