SEMH Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision

About the role

We are seeking a resilient and proactive SEMH Teaching Assistant to join an alternative provision school in Bromley. You will work with pupils aged 11‑16 who have social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, helping them regulate emotions, manage behaviour and engage positively with learning.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils with SEMH or behavioural challenges.
• Implement and monitor individual behaviour support plans.
• Assist teachers and pastoral staff in delivering emotional wellbeing activities.
• Promote positive behaviour and a structured learning environment.
• Contribute to pupils’ academic and personal development through tailored interventions.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting pupils with SEMH or behavioural needs.
• Experience in a specialist setting, PRU or alternative provision is desirable.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils who may present challenging behaviour.
• Strong commitment to safeguarding and pupil welfare.

Required skills

• Confident behaviour management techniques.
• Knowledge of emotional regulation strategies.
• Ability to implement behaviour support plans.
