SEMH Teaching Assistant – Primary School (Blackburn)

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to provide one‑to‑one support for a Year 3 pupil with special educational needs in a welcoming primary school in Blackburn. This full‑time temporary position initially runs until the October half‑term, with the possibility of extension based on school needs.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver 1:1 support to a Year 3 pupil with SEMH and SEN needs.
• Build a trusting relationship to promote engagement and emotional wellbeing.
• Assist the pupil in classroom activities and other school settings.
• Encourage positive behaviour and foster independence where appropriate.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with children with SEMH and/or SEN, preferably in a primary school.
• Patient, resilient and able to build strong relationships with children.
• Excellent communication and behaviour management abilities.
• Commitment to supporting pupils to achieve their best outcomes.
• Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable) or equivalent experience.
