SEMH Teaching Assistant – Primary School (Bury)

About the role

This position supports pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs in a welcoming primary school in the Radcliffe area of Bury. You will work alongside experienced teaching and pastoral staff to create a calm, consistent environment where children feel safe and can thrive.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
• Build positive, trust‑based relationships and use positive behaviour strategies to support emotional regulation.
• Encourage engagement with learning activities and promote inclusion, resilience and independence.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, SENDCOs and external professionals.
• Monitor pupil progress and give feedback to staff.
• Follow safeguarding and behaviour policies at all times.

Required profile

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A calm, patient and empathetic approach.
• Strong behaviour management abilities.
• Genuine passion for improving children’s outcomes.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
