SEMH Teaching Assistant – Secondary School (Croydon)

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary school in Croydon from September 2026. You will work closely with pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, helping them achieve their full potential in a safe and nurturing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for students with SEMH needs.
• Build positive relationships, acting as a role model and mentor.
• Assist with behaviour and emotional regulation using positive strategies.
• Support teachers in delivering engaging, differentiated lessons.
• Encourage attendance, participation and overall student engagement.
• Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour support plans.
• Collaborate with teaching staff, pastoral teams and external professionals.
• Promote safeguarding, wellbeing and inclusion at all times.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs (preferred).
• Calm, patient and resilient approach.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Ability to manage challenging behaviours positively.
• Genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
