SEMH Tutor for 14‑Year‑Old Student (1:1)

About the role
We are looking for a compassionate, patient tutor to work one‑to‑one with a 14‑year‑old student who has SEMH (social, emotional and mental health) needs. The role is based in Basingstoke and focuses on rebuilding confidence, reducing anxiety‑related barriers and providing a structured, supportive learning environment.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver 5 hours per week of personalised tutoring sessions.
- Implement strategies to manage anxiety‑based school avoidance and support attendance.
- Provide consistent structure and predictability to help the student cope with transitions and noisy environments.
- Collaborate with the student’s family or support network to monitor progress.
Required profile
- Experience supporting students with SEMH needs.
- Understanding of anxiety‑based school avoidance and ASD.
- Ability to build a positive, trusting relationship with the student.
- Patient, calm and adaptable approach.
- Willingness to obtain an Enhanced DBS check.
Required skills
- Knowledge of strategies for anxiety reduction.
- Familiarity with ASD‑related communication techniques.
- Ability to design personalised learning sessions.
