SEMH & Wellbeing Support Assistant – Primary School

About the role

This position offers the chance to work directly with pupils who need extra help with their social, emotional and mental health development in a welcoming primary school environment. You will be part of a dedicated pastoral team, delivering targeted support to help children thrive academically and personally.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one support for pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs.
• Assist children in managing anxiety, emotional regulation and building confidence.
• Deliver small‑group wellbeing and social‑skills interventions.
• Promote positive behaviour and active engagement in learning.
• Build trusted relationships that enable children to succeed.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff.

Required profile

• Patient, empathetic and resilient individual.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Genuine interest in child development, education or mental health.
• Experience working with children or vulnerable groups is beneficial but not essential.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
• Right to work in the UK.
