SEMH Youth Worker / School Mentor (Full‑Time, Blackburn)

About the role

This full‑time position supports a specialised SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Blackburn. The role focuses on mentorship, behaviour management and emotional support for pupils aged 11‑16 who find mainstream education challenging.

Key responsibilities

• Build trusting relationships with pupils, fostering a safe and supportive environment.
• De‑escalate challenging situations and promote positive behaviour.
• Deliver 1:1 and small‑group mentoring sessions covering self‑esteem, anger management and social skills.
• Act as a bridge between pupils and their learning, encouraging re‑engagement with education.
• Collaborate with teachers and pastoral staff, providing real‑time feedback on pupil wellbeing.

Required profile

• Proven experience in youth work, residential care, youth justice, sports coaching or community outreach.
• Experience working with vulnerable or at‑risk young people.
• Resilient, calm under pressure and non‑judgemental.
• Relevant qualifications in Youth Work, Social Care or Sport are advantageous.
• Training in Team Teach, MAPA or Price is desirable, with CPD support available.

• Excellent communication and high emotional intelligence.
• Strong boundary‑setting and relationship‑building abilities.
