SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant – Primary School

About the role
We are seeking a compassionate Teaching Assistant to provide one‑to‑one support for a pupil with Special Educational Needs in a welcoming primary school in Mid Sussex. Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and other staff, you will help the child access the curriculum, build confidence and thrive socially and academically.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver dedicated 1:1 support for a SEN pupil during classroom lessons and other school activities.
- Adapt learning activities to meet the child’s individual communication and educational needs.
- Promote independence, positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
- Collaborate with the class teacher, SENCO, parents and external professionals as required.
- Encourage the pupil’s social development and participation in school life.
Required profile
- Experience supporting children with SEN, preferably in a primary school setting.
- Patient, empathetic and resilient attitude.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to build trusting relationships with children.
- Proactive, collaborative mindset and genuine passion for helping learners overcome barriers.
