SEN Class Teacher – SEMH/SEND (Full‑Time, Long‑Term Cover)

About the role
Prospero Teaching is partnering with a specialist SEN/SEMH school in Portsmouth to recruit an SEN Class Teacher. You will work in a nurturing, therapeutic environment supporting primary and secondary pupils with complex social, emotional and mental health needs, as well as autism, ADHD and other additional needs.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that address academic progress and personal development.
- Adapt teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of pupils with SEMH, SEND and communication challenges.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students to support emotional regulation and wellbeing.
- Promote positive behaviour using consistent, nurturing approaches.
- Collaborate with support staff, families and external agencies to ensure holistic support.
Required profile
- Qualified teacher, ECT or non‑QTS teacher with experience in specialist education settings.
- Experience working with pupils with SEND, SEMH, autism, ADHD or similar needs.
- Strong classroom management and relationship‑building skills.
- Patient, resilient and nurturing attitude.
- Commitment to inclusion and improving outcomes for vulnerable young people.
Required skills
- Subject or phase specialism relevant to primary or secondary education (e.g., English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, PSHE, Functional Skills).
