SEN Teacher – Autism Pathway (Years 3-8)

About the role
A specialist SEN school in Romford is seeking a dedicated SEN Teacher for its Autism Pathway provision, starting September 2026. You will work with a small, non‑verbal class of eight pupils (Years 3‑8) in a highly supported environment.
Key responsibilities
- Lead a class of eight non‑verbal pupils with autism, delivering highly differentiated lessons aligned with individual EHCP targets.
- Create and maintain predictable routines and a calm, structured classroom atmosphere.
- Support pupils with sensory regulation throughout the school day.
- Collaborate with two Higher Level Teaching Assistants, three Teaching Assistants, therapists and the wider SEN team.
- Monitor progress, celebrate achievements and adjust teaching strategies as needed.
Required profile
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- Experience working with pupils with autism, preferably in an SEN setting.
- Understanding of non‑verbal learners and alternative communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton, AAC).
- Patient, resilient and able to remain calm in a busy classroom.
- Strong behaviour management and de‑escalation skills.
