SEN Teacher – Secondary Special School (Eccles)

About the role

This full‑time, year‑long contract role is based in a secondary special school in Eccles. You will work with pupils who have a range of additional learning needs, including Down syndrome, delivering engaging and personalised lessons that support academic, social and emotional development.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver creative, differentiated lessons tailored to individual learning needs.
• Teach and support secondary‑aged pupils with special educational needs, including Down syndrome.
• Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment.
• Collaborate with teaching assistants, therapists, and other professionals to monitor pupil progress.
• Assess, record, and celebrate individual achievements, adapting strategies as needed.
• Build positive relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
• Experience or a genuine passion for teaching pupils with special educational needs.
• Understanding of how to adapt teaching for learners with Down syndrome and other additional needs.
• Patience, resilience and a commitment to helping every pupil reach their potential.
• Excellent communication, organisation and teamwork skills.

Required skills

• Experience teaching pupils with special educational needs, including Down syndrome.
• Ability to design differentiated lesson plans.
