SEN Teaching Assistant – 1:1 & Small Group Support (Full‑Time)

About the role

We are seeking a caring and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Blackburn. The role provides 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils across early years, primary and secondary phases, helping them access the curriculum and develop independence.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver tailored 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with autism, ADHD, SEMH and communication difficulties.
• Adapt learning activities, sensory strategies and interventions in line with each pupil’s EHCP.
• Create a safe, inclusive environment that promotes positive behaviour, confidence and engagement.
• Collaborate with class teachers, SENCOs, therapists and other professionals to implement and review personalised support plans.
• Provide emotional regulation, communication and social‑development support, using appropriate de‑escalation techniques.
• Observe, record and report on pupil progress, behaviour and development for reviews and meetings.
• Assist with personal care, mobility or medical needs, ensuring dignity, safety and wellbeing.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN in a school or specialist setting (essential).
• Relevant qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (Level 2 or 3) or equivalent (desirable).
• Strong understanding of a range of special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, SEMH and speech‑language needs.
• Calm, patient and empathetic approach with the ability to build positive relationships across age groups.
