SEN Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Support in Wandsworth Secondary School

About the role

This position offers a rewarding opportunity to provide one‑to‑one support for a secondary‑school student with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) in the London Borough of Wandsworth. Working closely with teachers, the SENCO and pastoral staff, you will help the student access the curriculum, build confidence and develop socially.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver dedicated 1:1 assistance throughout the school day.
• Support the student in accessing lessons across all subjects.
• Encourage independence while providing appropriate levels of help.
• Promote engagement, participation and confidence during lessons.
• Assist with emotional wellbeing, coping and self‑regulation strategies.
• Facilitate positive behaviour and reinforce school expectations.
• Help with organisation, communication and classroom routines.
• Record observations and contribute to progress monitoring.

Required profile

• Compassionate, enthusiastic and dedicated to supporting young people with additional needs.
• Ability to build a trusting, supportive relationship with the student.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with staff and external professionals.
• Flexibility to adapt support strategies throughout the day.

Required skills

• Experience working with students who have an EHCP.
• Knowledge of strategies for promoting independence and self‑confidence.
• Understanding of emotional wellbeing and behaviour management techniques.
