SEN Teaching Assistant – Aspiring Creative Therapist

About the role

A fantastic, inclusive primary school in Chelmsford is seeking a SEN Teaching Assistant – Aspiring Creative Therapist to join its specialist Autism provision from September 2026. The role offers graduates interested in educational psychology, music therapy, drama therapy and related fields hands‑on experience supporting pupils with communication, sensory and emotional regulation needs.

Key responsibilities

• Support pupils within a dedicated Autism provision using structured routines and creative, child‑centred activities.
• Deliver 1:1 and small‑group interventions to develop confidence, independence and learning access.
• Assist pupils’ social, emotional and behavioural development through positive relationships.
• Collaborate with SEN teachers, specialist staff and external professionals.

Required profile

• First‑class or 2:1 degree in Psychology, Arts, Childhood Studies or related discipline.
• Passion for autism, inclusive education and child development.
• Creative, enthusiastic, emotionally intelligent and resilient.
• Experience working with children or young people in SEN, tutoring, youth work or creative settings is desirable.
