SEN Teaching Assistant – Autism & SEMH Support

About the role
We are looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join an independent special school in Haslingden. You will support pupils aged 7‑16 who have Autism Spectrum Condition and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs, helping them achieve their EHCP targets and develop confidence.
Key responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with autism and SEMH needs.
- Implement sensory, communication and differentiated learning strategies.
- Promote emotional wellbeing, resilience and positive behaviour.
- Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour and engagement.
- Work closely with teachers, therapists and the wider support team.
- Help maintain a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment.
- Support personal care and behavioural needs where required.
Required profile
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN, especially autism or SEMH (essential).
- Calm, patient and empathetic approach.
- Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification (desirable).
- Willingness to support personal care needs where required.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
