SEN Teaching Assistant – Autism Support (Year 3)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced, patient and nurturing SEN Teaching Assistant to provide one‑to‑one autism support for a Year 3 pupil in a welcoming primary school in Romford. The role starts in September and offers the chance to make a real difference in a child’s academic, social and emotional development.

Key responsibilities

• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and support team to deliver tailored 1:1 assistance.
• Help the pupil access learning activities, manage routines and build confidence.
• Support communication, sensory regulation and emotional wellbeing throughout the school day.
• Follow the pupil’s EHCP targets or personalised support plan where applicable.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting children with autism in a primary, specialist or care setting.
• Proven background as an SEN Teaching Assistant, LSA or 1:1 Teaching Assistant.
• Calm, patient and consistent approach with strong relationship‑building skills.
• Genuine passion for inclusive education and helping children with additional needs succeed.

Required skills

• Experience with communication, sensory and emotional regulation strategies.
• Ability to implement and monitor personalised support plans.
