SEN Teaching Assistant – Full‑Time Maternity Cover

About the role

An outstanding primary school in St Albans is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant on a full‑time, one‑year maternity cover. You will support pupils with special educational needs, helping them thrive in a calm, structured learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils with SEN.
• Implement behaviour management strategies and de‑escalation techniques.
• Assist classroom staff in adapting lessons and resources.
• Monitor pupil progress and report observations.
• Maintain a positive, inclusive atmosphere throughout the school day.

Required profile

• Experience supporting pupils with SEN, including challenging behaviour.
• Strong behaviour management and de‑escalation skills.
• Calm, patient, and resilient attitude.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Genuine passion for helping children with additional needs.
