SEN Teaching Assistant

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with special educational needs across schools in Cornwall. Working closely with the SENCO, you will help create an inclusive environment where every student can succeed academically and socially.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one or small‑group support to pupils with SEN both inside and outside the classroom.
• Assist teachers in delivering Individualised Education Plans and necessary accommodations.
• Monitor student progress and share observations with the SENCO, teachers and parents.
• Encourage development of life‑skills, independence and confidence.
• Help maintain a safe and supportive learning atmosphere.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young adults with special educational needs is desirable.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to build rapport with pupils, staff and families.
• Patience, empathy and a genuine passion for inclusive education.
• Relevant qualifications in education, psychology or related fields are advantageous but not mandatory.
• Willingness to undertake training and continuous professional development.

Required skills

• Understanding of SEN policies and Individualised Education Plans.
• Ability to adapt teaching materials and strategies to diverse needs.
