SEN Teaching Assistant

About the role

Join a welcoming specialist SEND school in Uxbridge, supporting children and young people aged 7‑19 with severe learning difficulties, autism spectrum conditions and other complex needs. You will work alongside experienced teachers and a multidisciplinary team to deliver personalised learning and care.

Key responsibilities

• Support pupils with learning, communication and personal development in class and through small‑group or one‑to‑one interventions.
• Collaborate closely with the class teacher and wider team to create engaging, tailored activities.
• Provide personal care such as toileting, changing and feeding while promoting dignity and independence.
• Use visual supports, AAC and other communication strategies to meet individual needs.
• Encourage independence, confidence, social interaction and communication.
• Assist with positive behaviour support and de‑escalation techniques.
• Support sensory regulation and therapeutic activities throughout the day.
• Maintain pupil safety, wellbeing and safeguarding at all times.
• Contribute to a positive, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people with SEN, especially complex needs, SLD or ASC.
• Comfortable providing personal care as part of the role.
• Patience, resilience and a calm, positive approach in challenging situations.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting child welfare.
• Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent experience (desirable).
