SEN Teaching Assistant (Maternity Cover)

About the role

An outstanding primary school in St Albans is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant on a full‑time, one‑year maternity cover. You will support pupils with additional needs, including those who display challenging behaviour, helping them achieve their full potential in a calm and structured environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to SEN pupils.
• Implement behaviour management and de‑escalation strategies.
• Assist teachers in adapting lessons and resources for diverse learning needs.
• Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and interventions.
• Collaborate with staff to create a positive, inclusive classroom atmosphere.

Required profile

• Proven experience supporting SEN pupils in a school setting.
• Strong behaviour management and de‑escalation skills.
• Calm, patient, and resilient attitude.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Genuine passion for helping children with additional needs.
