SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary School (Full‑Time)

About the role

We are seeking a caring and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist primary school in Skelmersdale. You will support pupils aged 4‑11 with a range of additional learning needs, helping them achieve their individual goals in a safe and inclusive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils with Special Educational Needs.
• Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging, differentiated learning activities across the primary curriculum.
• Support pupils with ASD, ADHD, speech, language and communication needs, and SEMH needs.
• Help implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and individual learning programmes.
• Promote independence, confidence and social development through positive interactions.
• Use effective behaviour management strategies in line with school policies.
• Collaborate with teachers, the SENCO, therapists, parents and external agencies.
• Provide personal care when required, maintaining dignity, wellbeing and safety.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs is desirable.
• Patient, compassionate and nurturing approach.
• Good understanding of SEN areas such as ASD, ADHD, SEMH and speech‑language difficulties.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.
• Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or Level 3) desirable but not essential.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
