SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary School (Leeds)

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant primary school in Leeds. You will work closely with teachers and the SENDCo to support pupils with autism, ADHD, SEMH and other special educational needs, helping them access the curriculum and develop independence.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one support for pupils with diverse SEND profiles.
• Implement and monitor individual education plans (IEPs) alongside classroom staff.
• Adapt learning materials and activities to ensure full accessibility.
• Promote emotional regulation and resilience through positive reinforcement.
• Supervise pupils during transitions, break times and sensory room sessions.

Required profile

• Practical experience supporting children with SEND in a school or care setting.
• Compassionate, patient and adaptable approach to sensory and behavioural needs.
• GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Mathematics.
• Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check (or already registered on the Update Service).
• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.

Required skills

• Experience using structured IEP frameworks.
• Ability to modify classroom resources for accessibility.
