SEN Teaching Assistant – Secondary School (Hackney)

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary SEN school in Hackney from September. You will work alongside class teachers to help students aged 11‑19 with a variety of additional needs achieve their learning goals.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with ASD, MLD, SLCN, or SEMH.
• Assist the class teacher in delivering differentiated and engaging lessons.
• Promote independence, positive behaviour, and social interaction.
• Monitor and record pupil progress and communicate updates to staff.
• Contribute to a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.

Required profile

• Experience working with secondary‑age students who have special educational needs.
• Patient, nurturing attitude with strong communication skills.
• Ability to build constructive relationships with pupils, teachers and support staff.
• Commitment to continuous professional development in SEN education.

Required skills

• Knowledge of strategies for supporting ASD, MLD, SLCN, and SEMH.
• Experience delivering differentiated learning activities.
• Ability to manage behaviour and promote independence.
