SEN Teaching Assistant – St Helens

About the role

We are looking for a caring and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in St Helens. The role focuses on supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, helping them achieve their academic and social potential.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils with SEND, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties and learning challenges.
• Assist teachers and the SENCO in adapting lessons and delivering differentiated activities.
• Encourage positive behaviour, confidence and independence in each child.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
• Monitor progress, record observations and give feedback to the class teacher.
• Create a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND in a school, care or community setting.
• Patient, compassionate and resilient attitude.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to stay calm and adapt in a busy classroom.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
• Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not essential.
