SEN Teaching Assistant – Support Children with Additional Needs

About the role

We are seeking enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistants to join specialist and mainstream settings across County Durham. You will help children and young people with a range of additional needs engage safely and positively with their education.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils with Special Educational Needs.
• Assist students with autism, SEMH, complex learning difficulties and other needs.
• Support behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies.
• Collaborate closely with teachers and other professionals to monitor and promote pupil progress.
• Contribute to creating an inclusive, structured learning environment.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people with SEN (desirable).
• Patient, resilient and able to build positive relationships.
• Calm and confident when supporting pupils with additional needs.
• Passionate about making a difference in education.
• Relevant backgrounds may include teaching assistants, youth workers, care workers, psychology graduates or aspiring teachers.
