SEN Teaching Assistant – Support Children with Special Needs

About the role

Cromwell Medical Staffing is recruiting compassionate SEN Teaching Assistants to work in schools across London and the South East. You will help children and young people with special educational needs overcome learning barriers and thrive academically and socially.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with special educational needs.
• Assist teachers in delivering engaging, inclusive lessons.
• Support students with learning, communication, behavioural, emotional and social development needs.
• Help create a positive, safe, and supportive learning environment.
• Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour‑support strategies.
• Collaborate with teachers, parents, carers and specialist professionals.
• Encourage student independence, confidence and participation in school activities.

Required profile

• Patience, empathy and understanding.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with children and young people.
• Flexibility and strong problem‑solving abilities.
• Understanding of child development and learning needs.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
• Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning.
• Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning.
• Training in areas such as Autism Support, ADHD Awareness, Speech, Language and Communication Needs, Dyslexia Support, Positive Behaviour Support, Safeguarding and Children First Aid (highly advantageous).
