SEND Learning Mentor – Support Children with SEND

About the role

The SEND Learning Mentor role is a full‑time, on‑site position based in a specialist school in Plymouth. You will work Monday to Friday, 8:30 am–4:00 pm, supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) as well as Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 4.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group learning support to students with SEND and SEMH needs.
• Help pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop positive relationships and achieve their academic potential.
• Monitor and record student progress, sharing insights with teachers and support staff.
• Implement behaviour‑management strategies for challenging behaviour, anxiety, depression or trauma‑related issues.
• Participate in regular training and professional‑development sessions.

Required profile

• Compassionate, patient and enthusiastic about supporting children with additional needs.
• Flexible, reliable and able to build trusting relationships with young people.
• Interest in working with SEND, including autism and ADHD.
• Graduates or individuals with transferable experience in childcare, psychology, youth work, health and social care or support work.
• Willingness to complete comprehensive online training; no prior school experience required.
