SEND Learning Support Assistant

About the role

This temporary position supports a secondary school in Hastings, helping pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and English as an Additional Language (EAL). The role is designed to evolve into a permanent post, offering a rewarding environment where you can make a real difference to student progress.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and group support to SEND and EAL pupils.
• Deliver tailored learning programmes, set high expectations and encourage independence.
• Collaborate with the SENCO and teachers to assess needs and implement Individual Learning Plans and EHCPs.
• Adapt and create resources that ensure safe access to the curriculum.
• Assist with related services such as speech, language and physical therapy.
• Record observations, give feedback on pupil performance and help produce teaching materials.
• Supervise pupils during breaks, lunch and school trips, providing pastoral care.

Required profile

• Experience in a similar educational support role is preferred.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and maintain a strong classroom presence.
• Understanding of inclusive education strategies for SEND and EAL learners.
• Excellent communication skills, able to work confidently with staff, parents and external partners.
• Commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of children.
