SEND Learning Support Assistant – Teaching Assistant (Sports Coaching)

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated SEND Learning Support Assistant to join a SEMH school in Abbeywood, Bexley. The role combines classroom support with sports‑based activities to help children with special educational needs develop academically, socially and emotionally.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the lead teacher in delivering tailored educational and physical activities.
• Use sports and movement to engage students and support their emotional wellbeing.
• Maintain a safe, supportive learning environment and manage classroom routines.
• Monitor student progress, record observations and adapt approaches as needed.
• Participate in training sessions focused on SEMS and special education best practices.

Required profile

• Experience in sports coaching or leading physical activities with children.
• Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, preferably in a SEMH setting.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
