About the role
We are looking for a dedicated SEND Specialist Support Assistant to join a vibrant specialist secondary school in the Stockport area. The role involves providing tailored support to pupils aged 11‑16 with complex learning needs, including moderate learning difficulties, autism spectrum conditions and social, emotional, and mental health challenges.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver 1:1 and small‑group assistance to students with a range of SEND needs.
- Support the class teacher in implementing personalised learning activities.
- Help pupils manage emotional regulation, communication and social interaction.
- Create a safe, stimulating and inclusive classroom environment.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists and parents/carers to ensure consistent support.
Required profile
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND in school, care or youth settings.
- Calm, patient and adaptable approach.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners.
- DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one through Hays.
