SEND Teacher – Special Educational Needs – Runcorn

About the role

We are looking for a qualified and passionate SEND Teacher to join local special schools and alternative provisions in Runcorn. You will deliver highly differentiated, sensory‑rich lessons to pupils with complex learning needs, creating a supportive and therapeutic classroom environment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver an adapted curriculum aligned with pupils' Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
• Use specialist communication systems such as PECS, Makaton and visual aids to support non‑verbal or pre‑verbal learners.
• Lead and mentor a small team of SEND Teaching Assistants, ensuring a safe and coordinated classroom.
• Apply positive behavioural management strategies, including Team Teach and positive handling, to de‑escalate challenging behaviour.

Required profile

• UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
• Proven experience teaching children or young people with severe, profound or complex SEND.
• Strong understanding of Autism (ASD), severe learning difficulties (SLD) and speech, language and communication needs (SLCN).
• Calm, nurturing and patient approach with solid behaviour management skills.
