SEND Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Support for Reception Pupil

About the role
We are seeking an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Reception‑aged pupil with Cerebral Palsy in a welcoming primary school in Southwark. The role involves personal care, wheelchair mobility assistance and collaboration with teachers, SENDCo and therapists to ensure full access to learning.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver 1:1 support throughout the school day, including personal care and toileting.
- Assist the pupil with safe wheelchair transfers and mobility around the school.
- Implement Speech and Language strategies to aid communication and language development.
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENDCo, therapists and wider staff to adapt learning activities.
- Encourage independence, confidence and participation in classroom tasks.
- Help the pupil achieve individual learning and development targets.
Required profile
- 6–12 months experience as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant in a school.
- Previous experience supporting children with physical disabilities, preferably Cerebral Palsy.
- Experience providing personal care and assisting with toileting.
- Comfortable supporting pupils who use a wheelchair.
- Knowledge of Speech and Language support needs.
- Caring, patient, proactive attitude with strong communication skills.

- Full‑time role, Monday‑Friday 8:30 am – 3:30 pm.
