About the role
We are seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Oldham. The role is full‑time, Monday to Friday, term‑time only, and focuses on supporting pupils with autism and complex additional needs.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils throughout the school day.
- Implement EHCP targets, communication strategies and behaviour support plans.
- Use visual timetables, PECS, Makaton or other appropriate communication approaches.
- Assist pupils with sensory regulation, structured routines and independence skills.
- Promote positive behaviour and engagement in learning activities.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists and families.
Required profile
- Previous experience supporting pupils with autism and SEND.
- Strong understanding of complex communication and sensory needs.
- Ability to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally.
- Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
- Genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs.
Required skills
- Experience with visual support tools such as PECS and Makaton.
- Knowledge of sensory regulation techniques.
- Familiarity with implementing EHCP outcomes.
