SEND Teaching Assistant – Flexible Daily Supply

About the role

Academics is seeking a compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to support secondary school students across the Wirral. This role offers flexible daily supply, short‑term and long‑term placements, allowing you to work in a variety of specialist and mainstream settings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1, small‑group or whole‑class support to pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, MLD and other needs.
• Step into different SEND provisions and mainstream departments on a daily or short‑term basis.
• Scaffold tasks, break down instructions and apply tailored strategies to help learners access the curriculum.
• Build rapport, manage positive behaviour and use de‑escalation techniques to maintain a calm learning environment.

Required profile

• Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent in Health & Social Care, Childcare or Youth Work.
• Previous experience as a SEND Teaching Assistant or in related roles such as Care Worker, Youth Worker or Behaviour Mentor.
• High levels of patience, empathy and adaptability.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
• Based in or able to commute to schools throughout the Wirral.

Required skills

• Specialist SEN training such as Team‑Teach, Makaton, PECS or Autism Awareness (highly advantageous).
