SEND Teaching Assistant

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with special educational needs in a Barnet school. You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs and other staff to ensure each child receives the tailored help they need to access the curriculum and progress.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one or small‑group support to pupils with SEND, including ASC, ADHD, SEMH or learning difficulties.
• Assist in implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support plans.
• Support classroom activities, keeping pupils engaged and on task.
• Create a positive, inclusive and safe learning environment.
• Adapt learning materials to meet individual needs.
• Collaborate with teaching staff and external professionals.
• Monitor and record pupil progress, reporting concerns to the class teacher or SENCO.
• Provide personal care support when required.

Required profile

• Experience working with children with SEND in a school or care setting.
• Strong communication and behaviour‑management abilities.
• Patience, empathy and a proactive approach.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
• Valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
