SEND Teaching Assistant

About the role

We are seeking an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Islington. You will work closely with pupils who have Autism, ADHD, and SEMH needs, supporting them to achieve their full potential in a safe and structured environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with SEND.
• Support pupils both in the classroom and during targeted interventions.
• Implement individual support plans and behaviour strategies.
• Encourage positive behaviour, independence and engagement with learning.
• Collaborate with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals.
• Build trusting relationships with pupils and their families.
• Help maintain a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a SEND Teaching Assistant in a school setting.
• Positive Handling training (Team Teach, PRICE, MAPA or equivalent).
• Experience supporting children with Autism, SEMH, ADHD or other additional needs.
• Confident in managing challenging behaviour using positive behaviour support strategies.
• Calm, resilient and patient with excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.

Required skills

• Positive Handling (Team Teach, PRICE, MAPA).
