SEND Teaching Assistant – SEN School, Barking

About the role

We are looking for an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Barking. You will work with pupils aged 7‑16 who have autism and complex additional needs, helping them achieve academic, social and emotional progress in a highly structured, nurturing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support pupils in accessing learning through tailored interventions and adaptive strategies.
• Collaborate with teachers and professionals to deliver personalised educational programmes.
• Encourage development of communication, emotional regulation and independence skills.
• Build trusting relationships that promote confidence, resilience and engagement.
• Assist in creating a calm, safe and stimulating learning environment.
• Support pupils during enrichment activities, educational visits and life‑skills experiences.
• Contribute to recording progress and implementing strategies linked to pupils' EHCP outcomes.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant within a SEND setting.
• Experience supporting children or young people with autism and/or complex additional needs.
• Patience, empathy and a genuine commitment to improving pupil outcomes.
• Ability to remain calm and flexible in a dynamic educational environment.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child welfare responsibilities.

• £115 per day
• Full‑time hours: 08:30 – 15:30
• Full academic year contract starting September 2026
• Paid trial shift before the end of the academic year
